Any contractor performing work in the City of West Lake Hills on a project valued at $25,000 or more must be registered with the Building and Development Services Department prior to permit issuance.
With the exception of General Contractors performing work valued at less than $25,000, all contractors must provide a Certificate of General Liability Insurance. The minimum coverage amount of the General Liability Insurance policy is $600,000.
Plumbing, electrical, or mechanical work may be performed without licensed contractors or contractor registration at single-family residential properties if all of the following criteria are met.
1. The trade work is being performed only by the homeowners.
2. The homeowners reside on the property.
3. Only the homeowners and their family reside on the property.
4. The property is not used as a rental / short-term rental property.
In all other cases, licensed trades require licensed and registered contractors.

All contractors must provide a name and phone number of an individual that is available at all times. This contact information will only be used in case of an emergency requiring immediate intervention.
If business holds licenses for multiple trades, separate applications are needed per trade.
Insurance is NOT required for General Contractors performing work valued at less than $25,000.For all other contractors, a Certificate of Insurance with a General Liability policy of at least $600,000 is required.
