Permitting Process for Residential and Commercial Building

General Permitting Process for Residential and Commercial Building

In order to better and more consistently serve the citizens of the City of West Lake Hills, the Building and Development Services Department is making some changes to the project and plan review process.  Beginning Monday, November 6th, project applications and resubmissions for building permits will be officially accepted for review the first business day of the week.  Applications for subdivision and variances must follow specific submittal dates found in the FAQs on Building & Development page.  Any applications or customer portal uploads received after 5:00pm on the first business day of the week will be officially accepted and processed the following week.  All submissions must be made through the My Government Online Customer Portal (MGOConnect.org) to be considered submitted.

The Customer Help Guide explains how to create an account.  If you need help creating an account or submitting an application please contact MGOConnect

Information on specific building code requirements can be located at the City of West Lake Hills Ordinances.

To apply for a permit go to MGOConnect.

Please check the specific building code requirements in the City of West Lake Hills Code of Ordinances.  Many of your questions can be answered there or in the FAQs. If you have questions about the application requirements or process please contact Joel Sherrouse or Jennifer Bills. After your application is deemed administratively complete, it may take up to four (4) weeks to get your first round of comments.  The applicant will then need to provide a comment response letter addressing each comment in addition to any revised documentation requested by the City.  These two steps will be repeated until all the comments are addressed. At that time, the permit will be issued or denied.

All construction projects are subject to stormwater management.  PLEASE READ STORMWATER MANAGEMENT AT CONSTRUCTION SITES: Stormwater Management at Construction Sites .

Please contact staff if you need further clarification or have any questions not covered in our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page.
