If you are 16 years of age or younger and received a citation, your parent / guardian will be sent a letter of notice to appear in court with you before the Municipal Court Judge. This is required by state law. The notice will be mailed to the address the violator gave at the time of the stop. The hearing will always be on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 4 p.m. The 20 business day appearance is not required for juveniles. Included with in the notice will be mailed two mandatory forms required at the time of the scheduled hearing.
If you fail to appear, a notice will be sent to the Texas Department of Public Safety to suspend your driver's license or prohibit you from getting one. The parent of any juvenile charged in municipal court is required to be present in court with his or her child. Failure of a parent or legal guardian to appear with a juvenile constitutes a separate misdemeanor offense by the parent.
